I need to ceate something to present, I have decided on an idea of making the book of short stories into a radio serial. I need to work out how is best to present that, I want my idea to come across clearly. In our previous presentations we worked on a What is your idea? How are you going to actualise it? and Why have you chosen this idea? I started to create my prezi with wanting to answer these questions in mind.
Below I am going to screenshot my prezi, and explain the various components and how I presented them.
So I started with an idea for the name of my project, I wanted it to be close to the original name of the book 'The Safety of Objects' (Homes 1990). The central theme of the book is suburbia and the stereotypes and fears involved in being, average and normal, so I decided a preliminary name for my project would be the Safety of Suburbia.
This is my first point of my presentation, 'what is the project?' I wanted to explain the initial idea and develop it later in the presentation. I started explaining that I wanted a podcast, which is based on the book, based on a website, with the possibility of it being a website.
So this is my 'Why?' slide. I explained my inspirations for the project stemmed from the audio drama 'Welcome to Night Vale' (Fink, Craynor, 2013) I played a short clip to illustrate the audio drama. I also explained that I wanted my audio drama to mimic classic dramas like The Archers (1950) in the use of audio to illustrate setting and other elements. I then went on to explain why I thought the movie had failed the book as an adaptation and where I thought I could improve on the film.
This is my slide which explains through the medium of a quote why I chose to do a podcast. My research had indicated that podcasts are popular in the demographic of 12-34 year olds, and that lot's of people do listen to podcasts. I put this in to demonstrate an audience for my piece.
This is my 'how' slide, which explains in detail how I planned to execute my idea. I illustrated my idea for a central website build to resemble a suburban street with each of the houses containing a podcast. I also want a central narrator.
As a precaution, I added a slide explaining why I had chosen to not suggest my idea as a video piece. I wanted it to be audio to make the experience more universal for the audience. To make sure all of the audience could see themselves as part of the drama and make the experience more visceral.
I then briefly explained one of the short stories I intended to dramatise. I think this is important as it demonstrates to the people watching my presentation what idea they are signing up for, and what sort of stories they can expect.
I broke my production schedule into two halves, assuming two halves of the team. This would also allow for a team of different skill sets to exist within one unit, people who record sound, and people who are more confident on website design.
I then had a slide that indicated the end of the presentation and asked for any questions, people asked questions which clarified my topic and I felt the presentation went very well.
This is the bibliography for my presentation as included
within the prezi.
